Term 5, week 5

This week in English, we will be summarising our key text, ‘Cinderella of the Nile’ by Beverley Naidoo. Using this as a prompt, we will begin to plan our own stories, developing our own characters and thinking about a ‘plot’.
In guided reading this week, we will continue reading The BFG together. Each week, the children will investigate the vocabulary and answer questions about comprehension and composition.
In Maths this week we are looking at money, investigating pounds and pence, and converting between the two. Times tables learning will continue throughout the week, with opportunities for the children to practise their tables and complete a times table challenge
In art this week, the children will continue painting their pigeons, making decisions about pattern and markings. We will also be continuing our new Ancient Egyptian topic, looking at what life was like for the people of that time.
Mrs Johnson will continue with the Kingdom of God unit in RE, making simple links between the description of the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit and the Kingdom of God, and how Christians live their whole lives and in their church communities.
Mrs Hawker will be continuing the new unit in science this week, looking at forces and magnetism. I popped into the classroom during Friday’s science lesson, and it looked like they were having great fun with ramps and bubble wrap!
Maple class have PE on Thursday with myself and Mr Luckhurst, and then swimming on Friday as usual. Please do email if you have any questions about this and remember to send your children in with everything they need for these sessions. If in doubt please do ask.
Reading Records will continue to be changed generally on a Monday and Thursday. We would continue to ask however, that children bring their books and Reading Records in to school each day and that they aim to read daily, ideally with an adult – details of this can then be recorded in the Reading Record. A number of children have said they have lost their reading record, so if this is the case, please do email on the class email, and will arrange for a new record to be issued.
I am always happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
Best wishes
